The Anna G. Corkscrew was designed by Alessandro Mendini for the manufacturer Alessi.

Founded in 1921, this Italian company has grown into an international luxury brand defined by its colourful, often tongue-in-cheek and kitsch designs. Originally better known as a journalist and editor of influential magazines such as Modo and Domus, Alessandro Mendini drew the attention of a wider audience as part of the Memphis Group which reacted against the sober functionalism of 1980s decor. His pieces are characterised by a wit, visual flair and sense of fun.

First introduced into the Alessi collection in 1994, the Anna G. Corkscrew typifies the company's upbeat, postmodern aesthetic. Measuring 24.5cm in height and 7cm in diameter, it features a smiling face and arms made from zamak zinc alloy which fit into a frilly frock formed from thermoplastic resin; it has a friendly female shape which seems to mock traditional notions of the domesticated housewife. The design is available in a range of colours and matte and chrome finishes which add further to the piece's personality. Playful but also sturdy and practical, the Anna G. Corkscrew makes an eye-catching addition to modern designer kitchens.
