Papyrus Armchair

The Papyrus Armchair has been created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for the brand label Kartell. The design of this chair is inspired by the antique rush chair that goes back to the 18th century. They typically had a look of simple elegance which the designers captured and reimagined in their contemporary version.

Made of transparent or mass-coloured polycarbonate, the Papyrus Armchair has been modernised with vertical pebbling that is on the outside of the backrest which is wide and rounded at the edges. It is done with closely spaced thin ridged lines. The rounded backrest that also forms armrests with its curved edges cradles the back which offers optimised support and comfort. The chair has a seat that is equally well-sized. The shell is supported by a frame made of legs that have built-in gliders that give the chair a bit of added height.

The Papyrus Armchair has a width of 60cm, a height of 79cm and a depth of 49cm. It has a seat height of 44cm. It is available in crystal clear which is transparent, fume brown and olive. It can conveniently be stacked for storage by up to four chairs and can safely be used indoors and outdoors.
