The Niche Centrepiece was designed by Zaha Hadid for Alessi.
Hadid is an Iraqi-British architect and designer, who was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. She was also made a Dame for her services to architecture, which was her main focus. However, she also undertook some interior projects and designed various home products, including this piece for Alessi. The vision of this Italian design company is to bring the creativity and innovation of design to the general public. Their passion to share art to make dreams come true is palpable. Specialising in home accessories to help people decorate in new and interesting ways, they bring an eclectic touch to their collections.
The Niche Centrepiece is a tabletop sculpture designed to create intrigue as well as functionality. The piece is formed by five individual sections which can be rearranged to create various shapes or to serve different purposes. Standing alone as a decorative item on a side table or mantel piece, it is a subtle, eye-catching creation, but it can also be used to store small items such as keys or coins. The centrepiece is made from melamine and measures 30 x 60 x 7 cm.
