The Sowden Toaster was designed by George Sowden for the brand HAY.
Sowden is a British product designer who has been active since the 1970s. However, despite his British origins, his major work has involved collaborations with European brands such as Olivetti, Tefal and - in the case of the Sowden Toaster - Danish brand HAY. The Sowden Toaster possesses the kind of playful aesthetics Sowden is known for, along with high-level technical features. Simple, fresh, easy to use, but artistically composed, it is sure to add to the fun of preparing breakfast, while bringing visual flair to kitchen designs. Made from a blend of polypropylene and steel, the Sowden Toaster measures 37.5 long, 15cm wide, and is 19.5cm tall - standard dimensions for a household toaster. It includes two heating slots, with space for four slices of bread, and features a temperature dial to ensure that cooking takes place as users desire. There is a pop-up lever on one side to eject toast when cooked, as well as an angled rim around the edge of the device, which catches crumbs and minimises cleaning. Compact and superbly functional, the Sowden Toaster offers a great way to bring Pop Art aesthetics to the kitchen.
