The Magic Bunny Toothpick Box was developed by Stefano Giovannoni for the manufacturer Alessi.
This company has been a distinctive voice in Italian design for many decades, bringing an eye for colour and an ironic, postmodern sensibility to its lines of utensils and household goods. One of the designers at the heart of its success, Stefano Giovannoni is equally influential as an architect -- who's involved in important town planning projects -- and as a distinguished academic. Despite his heavyweight credentials, his work for Alessi is imbued with a childlike sense of wonder and innocent delight.
Taking its inspiration from the old magician's trick of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, the Magic Bunny Toothpick Box features a cute, long-eared rabbit peeping out of an elegant topper. Pulling on the bunny's head reveals a hidden compartment, lifting the toothpicks into view. Measuring 14 x 7.5 cm, the piece is made from thermoplastic resin available in a choice of monochrome and subtle two-tone options which add to its visual impact. Fun to use, the Magic Bunny Toothpick Box makes an amusing addition to domestic dinner tables and to bars selling snacks, especially those with a business feel.
