The 64 Bar Chair Clear Lacquered Base 75cm was designed by Alvar Aalto for the brand Artek.
Widely regarded as a giant of twentieth century design, Finnish designer Alvar Aalto was a polymath. An architect, artist, sculptor and furniture designer, his influence is incalculable, with awards including the RIBA Gold Medal and the Prince Eugen Medal. The first designer to cantilever wood, his organic, flowing designs are still popular today. His philosophy was that furniture should be simple and uncluttered, and that it should work harmoniously with people, being, in his words, "organically suited to the man in the street".
This egalitarian approach is on display in the 64 Bar Chair Clear Lacquered Base 75cm. With its comfortable linoleum seat, this stool combines comfort and good looks. This 75 x 54.5 cm stool is finely crafted in high pressure laminate, a rugged and durable material. The warm, light wood of the birch finish has an austere yet classically Scandinavian air, allowing it to work seamlessly in a variety of design schemes. While ideally used in multiples at a breakfast bar or high table, its clean sculptural lines also allow it to stand alone, as an occasional stool or conversation piece.
