Trienna Side Table

The Trienna Side Table was designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara for the brand Artek.

Artek, a Finnish furniture company, was founded in 1935 by Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalto, husband and wife. A visual arts promoter, Maire Gullichsen and art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl were also involved in the company. The designer Ilmari Tapiovaara was also an interior architect, creating many iconic pieces which people from all over the world collected. In 1937 he graduated from the Department of Furniture Design at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki, then worked in Paris.

This beautiful clear lacquered beech Trienna Side Table is not only unique in design but stands out wherever it is placed. Measuring 70cm in length, 62cm in width and 39cm in height, the table looks perfect in a lounge or conservatory. It can also be used as a centrepiece in an office environment or hotel reception area. It's light in weight and a sculptural work of art. Made from three sheets of birch plywood that have been form pressed, it has an eye-catching, unusual geometric pattern on the surface. The table is functional and modern as well as being aesthetically pleasing and versatile.
