The Daruma Table Lamp was created by Sergio Asti for the manufacturer Fontana Arte, which has over 8 decades of experience in creating beautiful lighting for home and work spaces.
During the 1950s and '60s, Sergio Asti established himself as one of the key figures at the head of the resurgence in Italian design. Versatile and prolific, he developed a broad range of products including ceramics and glassware as well as designing showrooms, offices and exhibition spaces for some of the most important names in Italian industry. He also helped to establish the Italian Industrial Design Association, an influential body which gives out much-coveted annual awards.
Perennially popular since it was first introduced in 1968 and now held in MoMA's permanent collection in New York, the Daruma Table Lamp exudes a charming simplicity. Consisting of a sphere of glossy, opalescent blown glass, with a round glass lid resting on top, it has a sleek, futuristic quality which reflects the space age interests of the '60s. It is available in a choice of six sizes: 17 x 16 cm, 20 x 19 cm, 24 x 23 cm, 29 x 28 cm, 36 x 34 cm and 42 x 40 cm.
