The Ray Lounge Side Table by Alexander Nettesheim for Jan Kurtz is an exquisite example of how modern furniture designers are using cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to create innovative, imaginative new spins on traditional products. To create this piece, Alexander Nettesheim has used 3D visualisation software to create a dazzlingly original design.

To begin with, the Ray Lounge Side Table has an asymmetric form, with the table top leaning over from the base. This is not just an interesting design feature. It allows you to place the side table into corners to make the most of your space. The base is rounded, with spokes radiating out from the tabletop, and will easily support anything placed on top of the table.

Nettesheim has also chosen his materials wisely. The spokes are reinforced with aluminium, adding strength without making the table heavy. They have been coated in wound plastic, creating a rope-like appearance, while the table top is made from smooth glass cut into a perfect disc.

The table measures a compact 67 x 35 x 67 cm, and is the ideal place to keep magazines, books, flowers and coffee cups. It can also be used indoors or out, depending on the weather.
