Sparkle Side Table

The Sparkle Side Table was created by Tokujin Yoshioka for Kartell.

This Italian label was launched by Giulio Castelli in 1949 and is known for its innovative designs for the contemporary home. Working with talented designers, Kartell produces modern and elegant furniture, lighting and accessories. The Sparkle Side Table is typical of the work of Tokujin Yoshioka, a Japanese designer known for his fascination with light and prisms. Tokujin Yoshioka, who works out of an old rice mill in Tokyo, has been awarded many prizes including Artist of the Year at Tokyo Designers Week and the Bulgari Brilliant Dreams Award.

On first sight the 35cm high Sparkle Side Table appears to be a block of ice or crystal. Only a closer examination reveals that it is made of moulded transparent or batch-dyed PMMA or acrylic glass. This sparkling design is just as at home with traditional furniture and crystal lighting as it is with more minimalist furnishings and decor. Its 35cm diameter gives just enough space for snacks and drinks, books or a single striking ornament. In a clever design twist, the lid of the table comes off and turns the piece into a clever storage unit.
