The Potence Pivotante Wall Lamp was designed by Charlotte Perriand for the manufacturer Nemo.
The Milanese design company has never shied away from bringing architectural influences into its interior design, with concepts from Foster+Partners, among others. However, this design is one of its most iconic as well as one of its most ground-breaking. Charlotte Perriand was just twenty-four when she began working in Le Corbusier's studio. She was part of a movement that fundamentally re-thought our aesthetic of daily life. Together with Pierre Jeanneret, they pioneered the use of new industrial materials and reshaped our ideas of the domestic interior; modern-day minimalism is unimaginable without their work.
The Potence Pivotante Wall Lamp can genuinely be called a design classic. First created in 1938, this re-edition of the original model still feels strikingly modern. Its slender, crane-like 200cm arm moves through 180 degrees, so it can be set against the wall or reach high over a table or workspace, giving all the versatility of a desk or standard lamp. The shade, made from opal glass, casts a gentle but clear and even light. A perfect choice for any work or thinking space, it's stylish and practical enough to complement any home interior.
