Oku Coffee Table

The Oku Coffee Table has been created by Kristian Sofus Hansen, Nicolaj Nøddesbo and Tommy Hyldahl for the brand NORR 11. It is classified as a Sustainable Choice product. This is because it is made of FSC-certified wood that is finished with eco-friendly, water-based paint that has a minimal quantity of pollutants.

The Oku Coffee Table gets its name Oku from the Japanese language. It translates to oak in English which is what the table is made from. The ingenious design creates the illusion that the table's square-shaped tabletop has some parts that are paper-thin and others that are thicker. This is achieved by adding what seems like another layer of veneer on the underside of the tabletop. Lifting it upwards with rounded corners creates this illusion. It is replicated at the base with legs that have different widths. They are narrow at the top where they are attached to the tabletop. They then broaden out to a stout, rounded shape and taper towards the bottom. The effect has been emphasized with random placement of the legs rather than the conventional positioning at each corner.

The Oku Coffee Table has a width of 80cm, a height of 36cm and a depth of 80cm. It is available in natural and light-smoked oak.
