The gloriously retro Chronopak Nelson Desk Clock was designed by the renowned and highly influential modernist designer George Nelson for the leading Swiss homewares firm Vitra.
Nelson built a formidable international reputation for his innovative approach to the process of design, with a wide-ranging intellect informing his practice. His problem solving and innovative use of space led to him being awarded the Alcoa prize and being recognised as one of the world's leading thinkers about design
The quirky Chronopak Nelson Desk Clock is a fine example of his work. Nelson believed that design should follow natural forms, and with a casing made of highly polished walnut, this clock's natural warm wood tones contrast with its modernist, abstract metal face and stand. As such, this attractive 11.5 x 16.9 x 11.5 cm desk clock would fit well in a variety of design schemes, alone in an austere minimalist setting, or as part of an eclectic mix of objects in a more carefully curated scheme. Paired with abstract shapes its strong, modernist form will stand in striking contrast, the curved stand and smooth spherical body in conversation with the sharp lines of the clock face and hands.
