The striking design of the Mother Fish and Child Wooden Dolls hails from American design guru Alexander Girard for the Swiss family-owned furniture label Vitra.
With its headquarters in Birsfelden, Switzerland, Vitra produces high-quality furniture and home accessories along minimalist, contemporary lines. A native New Yorker, the late Alexander Girard was famed for his work in the field of American textile design. His design legacy continues through his family, a fifth-generation group of craftsmen, artists and designers at the Girard Studio.
The appealing Mother Fish and Child Wooden Dolls were designed to grace every home with humour and aesthetics. The wooden dolls reveal Girard's penchant for folk art objects from Africa, Asia and South America. The mother doll measures 180mm, while the child doll has a length of 125mm. Both were carved from natural pine wood and hand-painted for maximum effect. The black and red colours on the wood enhance the shapes of the Mother Fish and Child Wooden Dolls. With Nordic tones, the dolls are an eye-catcher in the living room or an attractive addition to any child's bedroom, always bringing out a smile from their viewers.
