The Gianni Storage Tin for Spaghetti was designed by Mattia di Rosa for the manufacturer Alessi.
This company had already been in existence for 60 years when, in the 1980s, it embarked on a bold new departure, creating pieces marked by a quirky, often humorous postmodern sensibility. With a background in graphic art, Mattia di Rosa brings a conceptual, experimental approach to his freelance design work.
His most distinctive contribution to Alessi has undoubtedly been his Gianni range, with its light-hearted yet thought-provoking "little man holding on tight" motif, a range which has received the accolade of being included in the permanent collection of the prestigious Groningen Museum in the Netherlands. Measuring 30.5cm in height and 10.5cm in diameter, with a capacity of 3 litres, the Gianni Storage Tin for Spaghetti is tall and thin and thus ideal for storing long, fragile strands of uncooked spaghetti without damaging them. The resin lid offers an hermetic seal for optimum food preservation. The comical figure dangling from the underside of the lid brings a sense of fun as well as functionality -- valuable addition to the kitchen for lovers of Italian cuisine.
