The Plia Cane Folding Chair was designed by Giancarlo Piretti for the brand Anonima Castelli.
Hailed as one of the forerunners of 20th century Italian design, Anonima Castelli has received many accolades for producing the iconic 1960s Plia Chair, which is featured in the permanent collections of museums in the US and Europe. The Plia Cane Folding Chair has enjoyed sales of over 4 million since 1969, and has won the BIO 5 award, received in 1971 at Ljubljana Biennial, as well as the 1973 Gute Form prize in Germany.
The Plia Cane Folding Chair is designed with a flat folding mechanism. The sturdy steel frame is 50cm in length, 47cm in width, and 75cm in height; while the backrest is 75cm high. The caned seat and back are comprised of woven wicker inspired by Viennese wickerwork. The overall structure is very firm, easy to fold and unfold, and doesn't shake when in use. Plastic gliders may be added to prevent scratches on laminate and hardwood floors. This folding chair is suitable for living spaces, both in homes and offices, including lobbies, living rooms, banquet rooms, bedrooms, and reception areas.
