Ross Lovegrove is the name of the designer, who created the extravagant Hydro lamp series for the Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide. As the name suggests, the Hydro lights interpret the element of water in various ways. For the Mercury, Skydro, or Droplet, the ripples or reflexion on a water surface are always the main element of their design. Also the organic shapes of the Hydro collection reminds us of pebbles shaped by flowing water. The light of the Hydro collection is always indirect and illuminates the room via reflections.
The Mercury lamp from the Hydro collection illuminates the room indirectly with exactly these bodies of light that remind us of pebbles in a riverbed. They hang from an aluminium sheet in different sizes, two of them are equipped with an integrated light source. Thanks to the high-gloss chrome finish of the Mercury lamp the light is not only reflected, but also the room with all its objects as well as the people moving through it. This makes the Mercury lamp an attractive eye-catcher even when it is switched off and an unconventional first-class lighting object. The lighting series Mercury includes the suspension lamp Mercury Sospensione and the ceiling lamp Mercury Soffitto; both Mercury lamps are available in two sizes and can be equipped with either halogen or LED illuminants.
The Droplet lights from the Hydro collection are highly technological creations with which industrial designer Lovegrove fully lives up to his profession. In a fully digitalised process the ripples of a water surface were calculated and punched into an aluminium disc. This provides the Droplet lamps with a reflection area for the light emitted by the body. The Droplet lamps from the Hydro collection are available in two sizes and two versions: the suspension lamp Droplet Sospensione and the ceiling lamp Droplet Soffitto, which can also be used as wall lamp Droplet Parete in its smaller version. Additionally, the Droplet lamps, like all lamps from the Hydro collection, can be fitted with different illuminants.
The most unique lamps from the Hydro collection are definitely the Skydro lamps. As the name suggests, the drop and pebble-like elements hand directly from the ceiling and there reflect the light of a light source located underneath. With their ceiling dimension of 144 cm the Skydro lamp needs generous space to look amazing. With its indirect and bright light Skydro illuminates business rooms as efficiently and effectively as private, modern living spaces.
All of the Hydro collection's lamps are exciting eye-catchers. The Mercury, Droplet, and Skydro lamps are very expressive and more artful lighting objects than simple lamps. With the Hydro collection by Ross Lovegrove Artemide succeeded in creating a memorable design highlight!
