The design company GUBI was founded in 1967 by Lisbeth and Gubi Olsen and since then has had its headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The family company, now in its second generation, is headed by Jacob Gubi and continues to enchant us today with its genuine GUBI-design.
GUBI calls himself a treasure hunter, in which curiosity, courage and intuition are the essential criteria for success. With large, tireless passion GUBI looks for forgotten, old as well as future, new design classics.
The company compares its rediscovered design highlights with precious gems and diamonds. In order to find such design treasures, GUBI must travel extensively and search meticulously for long-lost items. The result of this treasure hunt is a unique, international design furniture collection for the brand, where each furniture piece tells its own history, and thus brings many people under the magical spell.
The company GUBI has already introduced forgotten pieces of design furniture from the 1930s to 1970s. Originally, these objects were designed by artists, sculptors, designers and architects from different countries. The works of the creative minds are housed in famous museums such as, inter alia, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National Museum in Stockholm, Arktikum Museum in Finland and in London's Design Museum.
The remarkable beauty of all GUBI products is due to architects and designers from around the world, including, inter alia, Paul Leroy, Mathieu Matégot, GamFratesi, Corsini & Ruiz Millet and Bonderup & Thorup.
GUBI tries to take every chance on a new design wonder and is characterized by being one step ahead of many other design companies. A good example is the design of the GUBI Chair, which was created in collaboration with Komplot Design. It was the first 3D veneer chair that was ever produced and presented a major challenge for GUBI. Nevertheless, the GUBI chair was worth all the effort, for it has won numerous design awards and was also included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In addition to the GUBI Chair, lamps, shelves, dressers, chairs and desks are included in the popular products from the GUBI design label. The Semi pendant lamp from 1968 by Bonderup & Thorup is a design classic and impresses with its flat, curved shape. Like this elegant GUBI lamp, in our online store we also have the Semi 60 pendant light , the Semi 47 pendant lamp and the Semi 30 pendant lamp.
Also available online is the Pedrera Table and the Pedrera PD2 Floorlamp from Corsini & Ruiz Millet or go for a completely different feel with the Dedal bookshelf by Mathieu Matégot.
