Metalarte developed out of a metal workshop, which was founded by Antonio Riera Clariana in the early 1930s. For its items, the Spaniard was inspired by designers from Scandinavia and the USA. From the 1960s, Metalarte finally focused on lighting fixtures.
Metalarte evidences experimentation and also harks back to its roots: The pendant lamps and floor lamps are usually made of stainless steel and appear sculptural. Lewit and Hopper are among the top sellers for indoor use, while Metalarte with the Inout outdoor lighting makes for weatherproof outdoor lighting.
Through cooperation with George W. Hansen and Jordi Veciana, Metalarte became internationally known, and several lighting fixtures made it into the permanent design collection of the MoMA in New York!Jamie Hayón among others, designs pendant lamps and floor lamps for Metalarte - like the popular Josephine collection.
