The Ultima Thule Carafe was designed by Tapio Wirkkala for brand iittala.
Finland's most famous design manufacturing house, iittala has grown from strength to strength since it began as a small glassblowers in the 19th centruy. The late Tapio Wirkkala, once the artistic director for the company, was an award-winning Finnish designer who specialised in industrial art. His Ultima glassware range is one of his most enduring legacies.
The Ultima Thule Carafe is a beautiful piece of serve-ware, created specifically to serve cold drinks. Formed of expertly hand-blown glass, the jug features an ice-lip spout, designed to keep ice in the jug. The body of the jug resembles a tree trunk with a pleasing organic shape. At the base are four rounded glass 'feet', which help when moving the jug from surface to surface. The large handle makes the jug easy to lift and carry, whether you want to use it indoors or out. Full capacity of the jug is 1.5 litres.
The Ultima Thule Carafe is well-matched with any other items from the Ultima glassware range by Tapio Wirkkala. Other complementary serve-ware products include the simple yet stylish HAY Serving Tray.
