The La Marie Chair was designed by Philippe Starck for the brand Kartell.
Starck is a major figure in modern furniture design, gaining fame through a diverse range of furnishings and home products - but none are more famous than his translucent chairs. Part of the post-modern wave of furniture designers, Starck's imaginative creations have been championed by Italian label Kartell, which issued the La Marie Chairin 1998 - a contemporary classic which soon became a key part of the MoMa furniture collection.
Made from pure polycarbonate plastic, the La Marie Chaircomes in a range of colours and has a classic four-legged composition. A classic Starck design, it features a striking see-through design, pure edges, and practical features that will stand out wherever it is used. Standing 85cm tall, it measures 38.7cm wide by 52.5cm deep, while the compact seat is raised 48cm above the floor. Thanks to its transparent design, the chair can appear crystalline when exposed to light, adding to the already impressive visual effect. But it is also extremely practical, weighing just 3.5kg and being completely stackable. Suitable for use indoors and out, it will enhance everything from garden patios to living rooms.
