The Ascent LED Table Lamp was designed by Daniel Rybakken for the manufacturer Luceplan. This Milanese company has achieved international renown for the quality of its pioneering, technologically cutting edge light fixtures.
With studios in Oslo and Gothenburg, Rybakken ranks as one of Norway's most promising young designers. As well as developing pieces for luxury brands, he has created sculptures and art installations. Bridging the gap between art and design, he has been the recipient of Design Report's Best Designer Award, as well as the Anders Jahre Cultural Prize.
The Ascent LED Table Lamp from Luceplan, winner of the Red Dot and Compasso d'Oro awards itself, has a distinctively pared-back, functional look. Monochrome from top to bottom, it consists of an 8.5 cm-wide aluminium head, which slides up and down a 65 cm-long technopolymer stem that rests on a steel base. Thanks to an ingenious dimmer device situated inside the lampshade, the intensity of the light can be adjusted by moving the head vertically - up for brighter, down for darker. The resulting piece is not only chic and stylish, but also interactive in a novel and intriguing way.
