The Golden Chair was designed by Nika Zupanc for the manufacturer Moooi.
This Dutch firm has achieved international renown with a collection of lighting and furniture defined by a fresh, hip, Post Modern sensibility. Slovenian-born freelance designer Nika Zupanc first drew attention to herself with a series of eye-grabbing art installations, and she has since worked for many of Europe's top luxury brands. Her products diverge from the pared back, industrial aesthetic of much contemporary design, taking her cues instead from movies, fashion and club culture. She is a winner of ICFF and EDIDA awards.
Like many of this designer's pieces, the Golden Chair from Moooi displays a sense of fun and exuberance. The most humble and utilitarian of objects, the schoolroom chair, is transformed into a luxurious throne fit for a prince or princess. The frame is made from steel tubing which has been coated in gleaming gold chrome, and the seat is upholstered in synthetic leather with a high-gloss golden metallic finish. Measuring 86cm in height, 48cm in width and with a seat height of 46cm, the Golden Chair brings glamour and sparkle to dressing rooms, bedrooms and breakfast nooks alike.
