Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAW Black Maple Base

The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAW Black Maple Base was designed by Charles and Ray Eames for the brand Vitra.

The design duo entered this piece in the 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design and won second prize. After exhibiting their work at MoMA in 1946, they went on to become two of the 20th century's most influential modern furniture designers. Their prestigious honours include an Outstanding Service Award conferred by the United States Information Agency and a 50th Anniversary Award for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement from the Art Centre College of Design.

Vitra partnered with Charles Eames and Ray Eames in 1957 and remain the only licensed European manufacturer of their products, including this charming chair. The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAW Black Maple Base has a relaxed appeal with a seat moulded to fit the human form and provide comfort. The classic base and shell are available in a variety of colours. Developed to suit any room, the shell of each chair has been made with reinforced polyester which is dyed to achieve the required shade. The maple base is fortified with steel rod struts and it measures 625 x 830 x 600 cm. The seat height is 430cm.
