The Series 7™ Chair Lacquered Monochrome has been created by Arne Jacobsen for the brand Fritz Hansen. The 1955 chair reached iconic status and became a representation of Danish design. It has held its own in terms of style and continues to be in demand decades later.
The Series 7™ Chair Lacquered Monochrome is contoured to mimic the human body. It starts with a straight-edge backrest that tapers and then broadens out to form a wide seat. Its rounded side edges are slightly lifted while the outer edge is downturned which creates an intriguing play of curves and arches. The chair is made of layers of veneer pressed together at high pressure. This was a pioneer production material back then. It allows the shell to be manufactured as a singular piece without any joints or fasteners which works to give it a sleek profile. The veneer is covered with lacquer that conceals the wood grain. The shell is made of steel. The metal has been shaped into tubular, outspread legs that have gliders underneath. It is supported by a steel base.
The Series 7™ Chair Lacquered Monochrome has a width of 50cm, a height of 82cm and a depth of 52cm. Its seat height is 46cm. It comes in neutral colours.
