The 1972 Suspension Lamp has been created by Paavo Tynell for the brand Gubi. It is named after the year it was designed. The lamp is handcrafted by master craftsmen so no two pieces are exactly alike.
The 1972 Suspension Lamp has a cone-shaped shade made of bamboo. It is untreated which gives it an organic, natural look. It has been shaped into equally sized slats that are sewn by hand onto a pleated mat. They are held in place with a frame made of wire. The shade's strength is reinforced with a linen liner that is placed in between the slats. The light is cast directly upwards with more penetrating through the slats. The designer is known for his affinity for brass which he uses here for the support that holds the light source.
The 1972 Suspension Lamp has a height of 27cm and a diameter of 60cm. Its cable which is made of gold-coloured fabric has a length of 380cm. It comes in the earth-toned colour of bamboo. It works with an E27 socket and the bulb has to be purchased separately. To avoid damaging it, the shade should only be dusted with a dry cloth.
